Grandma's Painted Fruit Bowl and her Blue Striped Pears
Grandma's Painted Fruit Bowl and her Blue Striped Pears
This whimsical still life depicts a classic subject is a very expressive and slightly abstracted manner. The artist uses uncommon color and flattening of shape to celebrate this everyday scene in a joyful and fun loving way. The following poem by the artist, Susan Lackey, was inspired by this artwork.
Grandma’s painted fruit bowl and her blue striped pears
are the first things I remember as I walk up her stairs.
The pears must me dancing, almost leaping from the bowl.
They seem to rock and spin, pears with a soul.
Sweet pears, blue stripes, they are quite a show.
On big pear trees, that’s how they grow.
On her bowl, color bright, painted berries and vines
What a beauty rare I see. I wish it was mine.
