Flower Dance
Flower Dance
The illusion of Flower Dance is achieved through a deliberate layering technique, where the pattern is meticulously painted over and around the bright colors and unassociated shapes of the foundational layer. This interaction of a static foreground pattern and bright, dynamic background creates an energetic, flowing space that suggests gentle movement—as if the elements themselves are dancing. While the title Flower Dance suggests a whimsical, nature-based narrative, the visual execution remains intentionally abstract. The painting serves as an interpretive space and invites viewers to step in, allowing their personal experiences and emotions to complete the story.
The following poem by the artist, Susan Lackey, was inspired by this artwork.
I went to my garden . What a surprise I found!
With a gentle breeze and a very soft sound,
The flowers were dancing all over the place.
So, I cut a few for this whimsical vase.
And once, inside, so happy they were
Standing tall, pedals open, with joy, yes sir.
That’s what these flowers, just love to do.
They share nature’s beauty with me and with you.
