Beauty in the Bramble
Beauty in the Bramble
Beauty in the Bramble reinterprets the traditional chaos of an overgrown thicket through a contemporary, abstract lens. The composition juxtaposes organic, tangled forms with sharp geometric structures, shifting the focus from a literal landscape to an emotional narrative. High-contrast, complementary color palettes amplify the unexpected vibrancy hidden within the wild. Ultimately, the piece functions as an open-ended sanctuary, inviting viewers to step into the canvas, unearth their own memories of nature’s quiet secrets, and complete the story themselves.
The following poem by the artist, Susan Lackey, was inspired by this artwork.
There’s beauty in this bramble if you stand still and look
Under all the briars and vines, near the little twisting brook.
There’re bright red flowers hidden deep in that mess.
We don’t know what kind. We can only give a guess.
They must be very strong, in the bramble to grow.
And so very lovely when those bright pedals show.
You can’t always see them. The conditions must be right.
When the right time comes, they are a glorious sight!

The Nature’s Balance Collection
In this collection of paintings, nature’s beauty and tranquility are creatively counterpoised with bold and sometimes jarring color, suggesting a more intriguing sense of place and a moment in time. There is often a delightful interplay of light and dark.
