Helping Hands

Helping Hands
This painting was inspired by the remains of high cliff dwellings built by the indigenous peoples living in what is now southwestern United States. The artist’s intention was to capture the strength, ability, tenacity and cooperation involved in building anything meaningful. By looking closely, you might see the many shapes and sizes of the hands involved. The following poem by the artist, Susan Lackey, was inspired by this artwork.
Big home to build, upon that hill.
So safe and dry, we’ll be up high.
One stone at a time will be just fine.
One hand plus more will make work soar.

The Nature’s Balance Collection
In this collection of paintings, nature’s beauty and tranquility are creatively counterpoised with bold and sometimes jarring color, suggesting a more intriguing sense of place and a moment in time. There is often a delightful interplay of light and dark.
